World Photography Day

So today is World Photography Day and I couldn't let this day go past without doing a post about it!

I also couldn't just choose one wedding photograph as there are so many that I love so I have done a montage of all the weddings I did last year and the couple I did this year before the lockdown happened and the world stopped!!

The weddings are from lots of different wedding venues around the Yorkshire region and lots that I visit a few times a year for wedding photography!

Newborn Baby Shoot Wakefield

Hello Henry! This handsome little man came to visit me at the studio on Sunday.

Henry was just 3 weeks old and still really tiny! He was a complete dream to work with and the photographs are just lovely!

Happy Anniversary Chrishan & Neha wedding photography Halifax

Happy Anniversary to Chrishan & Neha who were married at Grace Baptist Church a year ago today! 

It was a relaxed day filled with lots of lovely people and a great on location wedding photography shoot with the bride and groom overlooking the views of Halifax even though it was really windy!

It's been 156 days since I photographed a wedding... today this happened

After 156 days without photographing a wedding... today this happened!!

A social distanced wedding ceremony at Doncaster Registry Office in the beautiful Priory Place then on location for some wedding photographs!

The personalised masks were an idea that the bride and myself joked about but I think they worked really well for a couple of fun wedding photographs!

During this surreal time that we are all going through I have really missed photography and all things weddings and it has been brilliant to be able to get the chance to photograph again, thank you Helen & Jamie!!

Newborn & Baby Photography Shoots Wakefield Studio

Something a little different for me now!

Why does the Bride throw the Bouquet?

I just love Wedding Flowers, whether they are fresh, silk or faux I just love them!

Following on with the Traditions theme I have had a look into why we have flowers at a wedding and also why the Bride throws her Bouquet and it's quite interesting!

Traditionally the bouquet wasn’t carried down the aisle just to look pretty, but to mask the bride’s odour as in Victorian times baths were something that didn't happen very often 

Another idea is that the scents of fragrant flowers were used to ward off evil spirits and there were even bouquets made of herbs and garlic to ward off the spirits too. 

Traditionally, the bride throws her bouquet, and it comes from a French 14th century tradition, where the groom would throw the bride’s garter into the crowd, but this quickly changed to the more civilised alternative of throwing a bouquet! 

It is said that whoever catches the bouquet will be next to be married so all the single ladies get ready to catch the bouquet!
